So CDs were a new concept when I was growing up and I remember the first CD anyone ever bought me was Real McCoy - Another Night. I didn't have a CD player or a Discman so I couldn't play it. Haha.

The first cassette tape I ever bought for myself was, like, Billy Idol or something like that. I rode the tail end of punk hard until it gave way to new wave. Also listened to a lot of rootsy reggae, motown. Some disco/post-disco when we went to the roller rink. There was a terrible dance music phase, too, because people kept buying me dance music and I apparently didn't know anyone in all of Brooklyn who was cool.

Listening to a lot of Shania Twain as a little girl has followed me up to today, even though my favorite music is black metal xD
But yeah, a lot of girly things and pop.

God I used to listen to a lot of spice girls. I still have all their cd's

BUT my brother was entirely a 90's grunge lover, so I grew up listening to hole, nirvana, pearl jam, silverchair, etc.

Right now I just love anything that has a good set of lyrics and beats.

I was a kid in the 80's and remember Bands like Depeche Mode, the Cure, Einstuerzende Neubauten, Cindy Lauper, Boy George, Madonna, Duran Duran, New Kids on the block etc. My parents listened to everything popular at the time pretty much.
But they also listened to a lot of 60's and 70's music, because that was when they were young, so I did too.
I had my own LP Player and was listening to ABBA a lot, usually while reading cause there was no computer and I didn't have a TV either! (hard to imagine now)
In the 90's I pretty much liked a little bit of everything, until I got more into metal. I still like both nowadays but there is also lots of pop music that I don't like at all. It really always depends on the song.
